After a week of almost continuous overcast and more than three inches of rain, the sky cleared late afternoon to reveal the three day old Crescent Moon above a spectacular anvil cloud illuminated from below by the setting sun (first photograph). The mosaic shows the cloud changing color from yellow to orange and deep red as the light from the sun faded. If you look closely you will see a small patch of iridescent cloud above the left flank of the anvil. As dusk approached the anvil dispersed with the Crescent Moon shining brightly above (third picture) and after a few minutes Venus appeared below together with twilight crepuscular rays (last image). The photographs were taken using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 compact camera in sunset scenery mode.
