This GIF was taken January 6, 2 nights after Comet Heinze close approach to Earth on January 4. The GIF is 6 images each 60 seconds long with a 2 minute interval between images. Comet Heinze is moving to the West and is 21 million miles from Earth. The large low surface brightness Spiral Galaxy IC 342 is to the left of Comet Heinze.

A bright Moon and thin clouds have been a problem all week with trying to image this comet from Denver, washing out the tail in these short images. The tail is to the southeast (upper left) of the comet coma.

Click on the large image to get the best resolution for this GIF. There is a lot of noise from image to image in this GIF, I do very little processing to my images.
