Today at around 3 pm. I observed a rare odd radius halo display. The sun was surrounded by at least 4 concentric circles: 22, 20 (hard to see), 18 and 9 degrees. Maybe some plate or column arks were also present.
Strangely enough halo displays have been often associated with bad omens. For example, ancient book of Hindus, the Bá ihat Saá hita of Varaha Mihira states:
If the halo should consist of two concentric circles, the commander-in-chief will be afflicted with fear, and there will also be wars but not of a fearful nature; if the halo should consist of three concentric circles, there will be wars; if of four circles, the first prince will suffer miseries; and if of five circles, the capital city will be seized by the enemy. It was written in 1884. But I am sure this is just a superstition. A few years ago I observed another odd radius halo, and nothing bad happened :-)
Later at around 6 pm there still was a bright halo now with sundogs, but the odd radius halos if even present were not as noticeable as 3 hours before.
