A very cool Sun pillar follows a rather hot day in the UK … After a period of fairly cool conditions, today warmed-up very nicely indeed, so the last thing I expected to see was a Sun pillar. Clearly, at altitude it is still very, very cool – which perfectly matched the appearance and words I used to express my delight at observing this unexpected apparition!
