Details:
Loved the classic look of a brass tube long focal length terrestrial refractor, but they cost several hundred dollars. Decided to use a $8 surplus achromat L14810 from Surplus shed (52mm x 600 mm) and mount it in 2 PVC tube with fittings and a 14mm terrestrial eyepiece (43X) from a $6.86 Ozark Trail 8x21 binocular from WalMart. If interested, will post more details. Images through iOptron smartphone adapter and with iPhone 5c and M Cam app.

Two inspirations for this. At the beginning of the planetarium show, Two Small Pieces of Glass, a scope like this starts a beginner on the wonders of the telescope. Link to: https://www.eso.org/public/videos/tspog/

Also, Robert Frosts neighbor burns down his house for $600 insurance to purchase The Star-splitter Wanted to save you all fraud charges and $580 as well. Link to: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44273/the-star-splitter

Here is how I use the Ozark Trail binocs for both the finder scope and the 14mm terrestrial eyepiece. What a deal for $6.86!
