Details:
This was the largest magnetometer response in quite a while, certainly since the last solar maximum. I thought something had gone wrong with my instrument until I rescaled the charts to reveal the extent of the magnetic deviation from normal levels. On this scale, look how the readings flatline before and after the event. There is no ambiguity about when things kicked off.
