Tonight about 270 keen aurora chasers boarded a 10 hour flight from Christchurch deep into the southern auroral zone. Timed to coincide with new moon and the equinox to take advantage of the Russell McPherron effect, the enthusiasts on board were treated to a wonderful display of the aurora australis when conditions were truly impressive
