Details:
At just after midnight, I had just just minutes before set up my camera (with a 600mm lens, on a tracking mount) to shoot some nebulae, when I noticed a weird glow in the east. It was't a cloud, it wasn't the moon rising, it wasn't light pollution. I tore the lens off my camera, replaced it with a wider lens, and plonked it back down on the mount, just in time to capture a single, blurry, image of the event (on a loose mount that slipped during the exposure) before it faded away to nothing. The entire apparition lasted less than five minutes and was not colorful to the unaided eye. The next picture showed nothing. Camera Nikon D780. Exposure ISO 800, F/3.2, 180s. Lens, Tamron 24-70.
