Details:
I set up a 105mm F1.4 lens to photograph a SpaceX launch up the east coast. But the trajectory was much higher than usual (500km vs 160) and I saw nothing. A few minutes later, this red aurora appeared along the flight path. I'm guessing the rocket and its plume excited oxygen in the ionosphere and produced this short-lived show. I had no wide angle lens with me, so I shot this 8-frame mosaic with the 105 near the peak of the display (each frame was 1/15s, F1.4, ISO 25,600).
