Details:
Just another typical Missouri night out shooting deep space objects with my telescope when my little brother noticed something way up in the sky. It looked like Starlink satellites. So we rushed to grab the camera and hand held the first photo catching a very blurry photo of the sky which to my surprised revealed the auroras from my back out at Lat 38 degrees. I quickly setup the camera on the tripod and setup for a time lapse!
For the equipment I used a Canon 6D Mark ii with a 24mm L series. I ran with 10's exposures, F/2.8 and a ISO of 2500. Facing north is the town of Washington, Missouri which is heavily light pollution. The auroras lasted for about an hour and half as it danced on the back of my camera.
Since seeing the auroras in Michigan in 2017 with my friend Billy who got me hooked, I pay attention to the active as much as I can. I did noticed the BZ -11 before it really got dark but didn't think much from it. This is the farthest south I've seen the aurora.
