Details:
It's polar night here at around 70°N in Utsjoki in the far north of Finnish Lapland. It becomes night at around 3 PM, so when I saw a very high density of the solar wind, and a very negative value for Bz, I knew that we were just about the see the effect of a CIR. And I was right, soon after, despite a bit of remaining twilight and the almost full moon, the sky was filled with green but mostly purple auroras! Again, what a night, or should I stay afternoon, to be under the stars in Utsjoki! Photos taken between 3:30 pm and 4 pm local Finnish time.
