Details:
Flying home (KDCA) from Cedar Rapids, Iowa (KCID) I spent the entire flight gaping out the window waiting, like a spider in a web to capture my passion, atmospheric optical phenomena. As we descended from clear air toward the cloud deck below, on final approach into DC, I waited patiently for the target of my quest to appear in widow. All was in place. The Sun was shining on the opposite side of the aircraft, behind me as I gazed down toward the anti-solar point. Then, suddenly, there it was, a brokenspecter, aka a glory- the shadow of the aircraft surrounded by a rainbow colored series of concentric rings. Soon we dropped through the cloud layer and all was gone until we broke out of the clouds over the Potomac River. Success! I even captured a bit of a fog bow, also known to appear with a glory.
