Details:
This year, the best time to hunt down the elusive counterglow is now, around the coming new moon. This „Gegenschein“ is a very faint glow on the ecliptic, directly opposite to the Sun‘s position. It is sunlight reflected by interplanetary dust and is only visible from very dark skies. Last night on La Palma island the counterglow was obvious between the constellation Aries and the Plejades. We captured it after midnight with a 1-hour exposure with the widefield cam of a smart telescope. For those interested to observe or capture the counterglow, there is a comprehensive guide for download on our homepage: https://project-nightflight.net/the_quest_for_the_gegenschein.pdf
