Saturn is coming closer!
The following animation shows a few things about Saturn: it is getting bigger, that is closer. The angle at which we view the planet is changing, as sen from the shadow of the planet onto its rings (lower right) the narrowing of the rings, and also the view through the Cassini division (we now see the shadow of the rings onto the planet directly through the Cassini division). Also note the preferential presence of the spokes on the left ansa.
The rings are getting brighter as we come close to the October 4 opposition, when the Seeliger effect will be strongest.
All images using the same equipment, 355 mm Newtonian, ASI 462MC. Images from end of July to mid-September.
