Details:
Comet 161P/Hartley-IRAS made its closest approach to Earth this orbit on October 2 when it was 46.8 million miles (75.2 million km) from Earth moving at 3 degrees per day across Earths skies. The comet was magnitude 11 with a coma 5' wide and no visible tail in these images. The comet will be at perihelion in its orbit on November 27. Naturally, the comet was in the area of the GEO Sats during the collection of these images, thus the gaps in the image collection and the vertical streaks in the image.
