Details:
Blue to Violet Hues: Indicate basaltic lavas and high concentrations of titanium-rich minerals like ilmenite (iron titanium oxide). Orange, Brown, and Red Hues: Reveal areas with lower titanium content and higher amounts of iron and other silicates. White and Gray Hues: Represent highland regions rich in calcium- and aluminum-bearing minerals like plagioclase feldspar that have high sun exposure. The color differences are physically real and caused by how different lunar soils reflect sunlight, though they are far too faint for the naked eye to see.
